Rangeley Inn Wildlife & Moose Safari
Sunday, August 9 - Tuesday, August 11
We'll explore Maine's Mountains and Lakes region on this trip to the Rangeley Inn, located on beautiful Rangeley Lake.
DAY 1 - We'll head up to Maine and take a tour at Ricker Hill's Orchard & Hard Cider. Take a tour of their family operated cidery and visit their tasting room. We'll continue on to check into the historic Rangeley Inn. Witness the grandeur and charm of Rangeley's past in this beautifully restored landmark hotel dating to the late 19th century. Enjoy a delicious buffet dinner at the hotel tonight. (D)
DAY 2 - After breakfast, we'll take a stop at the Scenic Overlook for beautiful Coos Canyon - a 15-foot waterfall along the Swift River - before their local guide gives us a demonstration on the process of gold panning. You'll return to the hotel and have time to stroll the Main Street of this quaint town, with the afternoon to relax or browse the shops in Rangeley. We'll enjoy a delicious barbeque dinner at the hotel before departing for our 2-hour moose tour. Our local Maine Moose Safari guide was the 2012 World Moose Calling Champion runner-up and has been featured in several magazines and on public radio. He will demonstrate the many ways to call moose, tell exciting stories about moose and their antics, and also teach us how to call moose. Then, we'll board our motorcoach for a Wildlife & Moose Safari. Our guide will take us to the places where moose are frequently seen and hopefully, we'll spot a moose or two, so don't forget your cameras!
DAY 3 - Before leaving the area, we'll take a scenic drive to Maine's Height of Land, a stunning mountain setting that overlooks beautiful Mooselookmeguntic Lake and the White Mountains. Visit the Maine Tasting Center for a chance to shop for classic Maine goodies and a 90-minute class on the Maine Blueberry. Discover the difference between the original Maine wild blueberry and hybridized "grocery store" blueberries through a guided tasting experience showcasing a variety of blueberry products made by Mainers. Learn about the state's wild blueberry industry and the people who have worked to sustain it for centuries. We'll stop in Damarascotta for lunch and shopping at before returning to the Cape. (B)
