DAY 3 - Begin your morning with a walking tour of Chelsea Market and the High Line. Well start in the world-famous Chelsea Market, an abandoned factory converted into the citys best food court. Then climb up to the gray steel truss of the High Line, a park built atop an elevated railway, running for over a mile up the West Side. View unique art installations, urban meadows, and incredible vistas weaving between and through buildings. Bring your camera! Next, well head south as your guide introduces you to the Meatpacking District. This industrial area was reclaimed first by the counterculture of the 1980s, then later by New Yorks wealthy elite. Marvel at some of Manhattans most iconic architecture, like Frank Gehrys glittering glass curtain design for the IAC Building and the famous art deco skyscraper, the Empire State Building. As you walk, youll hear about the homes lost in New Yorks real estate boom, the architecture preserved almost by accident, and a city thats constantly reinventing itself. Explore this neighborhood in flux, and witness firsthand the ever-changing identity of NYC. Youll have time for lunch on your own in Chelsea Market before we board our 90-minute cruise around Manhattan. Head down the mighty Hudson River, past Hudson Yards and Little Island, gliding by the towering One World Trade Center, past Ellis Island until you are just feet away from the Statue of Liberty. Experience breathtaking views of lower Manhattan before quietly slipping under the Brooklyn, Manhattan and Williamsburg bridges for a short journey up the East River before returning to Pier 83 in midtown Manhattan. After our cruise we will depart for the Cape. (B)
