As we travel south, we’ll have the imposing Santa Lucia Mountains on one side and the rocky Pacific Ocean on the other, and around every winding corner is another spectacular vista. It’s a journey that will surely take your breath away. We’ll travel over the famous Bixby Canyon Bridge, one of the most photographed bridges in California due to its aesthetic design, graceful architecture and magnificent setting; and see the Point Sur Lighthouse before we arrive in Big Sur. At Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park, we’ll enjoy time at leisure for an included picnic lunch and a leisurely stroll beneath the giant redwoods. This afternoon we continue past Ragged Point to the quaint seaside village of Cambria, where we'll enjoy two nights at the Fog Catcher Inn, located adjacent to beautiful Moonstone Beach, voted one of the 10 Best Beaches in California by the readers of USA Today. Enjoy dinner on your own this evening at one of the restaurants in Cambria’s charming East Village. (B,L)

Friday, April 21 - We'll travel to nearby San Simeon, where William Randolph Hearst built his estate high on a bluff overlooking the village in 1919. He called the estate "La Cuesta Encantada" - Spanish for The Enchanted Hill. By 1947, Hearst had created an estate of 165 rooms and 127 acres of gardens, terraces, pools and walkways – an American castle that was destined to become one of the world’s greatest showplaces. We'll travel back in time today to experience what it was like to be a guest at the Enchanted Hill on our Grand Rooms Tour of Hearst Castle. Our tour begins with a 40-minute introductory film "Hearst Castle - Building the Dream." Breathtaking original cinematography combined with vintage clips and stills from the 1920s and 30s allows the construction and history of the Castle to come to life on a massive five-story screen. Then, we'll board the Castle shuttle and begin our 5-mile ascent to the top of the Enchanted Hill to the main building, Casa Grande. Gather in the grand social room just as W. R. Hearst’s guests did decades ago. Our guide will talk about the Social Room as we admire the room’s walnut paneling, 17th century tapestries and masterpieces of neoclassical sculpture. Our one-hour Grand Rooms Tour continues with visits to the Refectory, Billiard Room, Theater, Gardens, Neptune Pool and Roman Pool. Please note: The Grand Rooms Tour is 60 minutes long and includes approximately 140 steps, both up and down, and 2/3-mile walk. An Accessibly Designed Grand Rooms Tour is  available for those who have difficulty standing and walking for extended periods. If you require the ADA tour, please let us know when you reserve your trip, as space is very limited. We’ll also stop at the elephant seal rookery at Piedras Blancas, one of only a few spots in the world where northern elephant seals can be seen in vast numbers. Enjoy a relaxing afternoon at the Fog Catcher Inn. Dinner is included tonight in Cambria. (B,D)

Saturday, April 22 - We'll leave the coast and travel East through the Central valley, one of the most productive agricultural regions in the world. Its nickname is "the Fruit Basket of the World," and is the primary source for many vegetables and fruits found in all US markets due to its warm, Mediterranean climate. We’ll make a few stops in the Central Valley as we travel to the scenic Sierra Nevada foothills and the Wonder Valley Ranch Resort, a 75-acre all-inclusive western-style guest ranch located in the scenic Wonder Valley. We’ll arrive at our Resort and have time to relax or enjoy the resort’s amenities including a heated pool & jacuzzi, catch-and-release fishing and canoeing on Dalton Pond, horseshoe pits, tennis, walking/jogging/biking path, ping pong, billiards, foosball, and horseback riding (additional fee). This evening, enjoy a hosted “happy hour,” included dinner and original entertainment at the resort.  (B,D)

Sunday, April 23 - Board the motorcoach with our local guide and travel to Sequoia National Park, the second-oldest national park in the US. At the heart of the park, the Giant Forest is home to half of the Earth's largest and longest-living trees. Named in 1875 by John Muir, the forest is a stand of more than 8,000 colossal sequoia trees - many standing just as Muir found them. Visit the Giant Forest Museum to learn the story of the giant sequoias and Giant Forest. Then, visit Kings Canyon Park, the place that John Muir once called "a rival to Yosemite." We'll stop at the Kings Canyon Visitor Center and enjoy a picnic lunch before continuing to the General Grant Grove. On a leisurely stroll along the 1/3-mile paved loop General Grant Tree Trail, and stand in awe as we walk amongst this mixed conifer and sequoia forest with giant sequoia trees that are 3,000 years old with trunks weighing 1,400 tons! The grove’s most famous and largest tree is The General Grant Tree. The third largest tree in the world at nearly 50,000 cubic feet, this goliath measures 107 feet in circumference, is almost 300 feet tall and has the largest base diameter of any tree in the world at more than 40 feet!  Return to our resort and relax or enjoy some of the resort amenities before our included dinner. (B,L,D)

Monday, April 24 - We'll visit the Forestiere Underground Gardens, where in the early 1900s, Sicilian immigrant and citrus grower Baldassare Forestiere began turning what was useless farmland into a vast network of rooms, tunnels and courtyards as a subterranean escape from the sweltering Central Valley summer heat. Using only shovels, picks and other hand tools, Baldassare was inspired to excavate for forty years, going as deep as 25 feet underground and spanning over 10 acres. He grew fruit trees and grapevines underground — many of which are still thriving today! On our one-hour walking tour we'll see his hand-built network of underground rooms, courtyards, and passageways reminiscent of the ancient catacombs, filled with unique fruit-producing trees, shrubs, and vines growing underground - some over 90 years old! Enjoy an included, traditional Basque meal. This family-style lunch includes fresh bread, homemade soup, a variety of sides, fried chicken, charbroiled lamb chops, ice cream and house wine. Then, travel to the 4-star Tenaya Lodge at Yosemite Park and have the evening at leisure. The Lodge has a restaurant, spa, indoor and outdoor pools, movies at the pool, and game room. (B,L)

Tuesday, April 25 - We'll meet our local tour guide or a full day tour of Yosemite Park. We'll begin our journey through Yosemite National Park at Tunnel View, where the spectacular panorama of Yosemite Valley appears in front of you with El Capitan and Bridalveil Fall in the foreground and views all the way to Half DomeCloud's Rest and beyond! Yosemite Valley is the prized jewel of Yosemite National Park and what John Muir called the “Incomparable Valley.” This eight-mile long, 4,000-foot-deep valley sits alongside towering cliffs and glacially sculpted, polished rock. We'll make a stop closer to the base of Bridalveil Fall for excellent views of both the falls and El Capitan. We'll stop at Sentinel Bridge for spectacular view of Yosemite Falls, Half Dome and the surrounding cliffs. We'll walk to the Lower Yosemite Falls viewing bridge to see Yosemite Falls, the highest waterfall in North America, plunging 2,425 feet to the valley! We'll make a photo stop at Valley View, one of the most-photographed sites in Yosemite, including the famous "Gates of the Valley" photo by Ansel Adams. We’ll see several picturesque and historic buildings, none more famous or spectacular than the Ahwahnee Hotel, an architectural gem combining grandness and intimacy. Enjoy some time at leisure in Yosemite Village before returning to the hotel. A delicious box lunch in Yosemite Park is included. (B,L)
