Open rehearsals are a great way to experience the Boston Symphony Orchestra in action! We will enjoy first balcony seating as superstar violinist Hilary Hahn, joins conductor Andris Nelsons.

Opening the program is Wolfgang Mozart’s charming Symphony No. 33, followed by Anna Thorvaldsdottir’s orchestrally imaginative Archora, inspired by the “primordial energy” of her homeland of Iceland. Closing the program, international star Hilary Hahn is soloist in one of the greatest works in the repertoire: Brahms’s Violin Concerto. Brahms composed this rich, lyrical work in 1878 for his friend Joseph Joachim, a towering virtuoso of the age. 

This is a working rehearsal in which the conductor may stop the orchestra to rehearse specific passages of the music that the conductor decides to need further refinement, and the conductor may choose to repeat or omit movements or works. We will arrive early for the pre-concert talk which provides for informative insight into the performance. Before heading home, enjoy time for lunch on your own in the city at High Street Place Food Hall.
