Saratoga Springs Racing

Sunday,July 29 –Tuesday,July 31

Dubbed “Queen of the Spas” over a century ago, it was the naturally flowing, carbonated springs that first brought visitors, including the rich and famous.  Then came the Saratoga Race Course, which has attracted high rollers to Saratoga Springs since the late 1800s.  On this getaway, we’ll learn about both the springs, horse racing, see the beautiful mansions on Millionaires Row, and enjoy some free time to explore the vibrant downtown.

DAY 1 – We’ll begin our getaway with a delicious lunch at Longfellow’s Restaurant.  We’ll visit the National Museum of Racing & Hall of Fame, which tells the story of racing through a renowned equine art collection, beautiful racing silks, and memorabilia.  Our guided tour will take us through the museum, and we’ll visit the Racing Day Gallery to prepare us for our day at the races - it features displays on the jockey room, the weighing-in process, racing surfaces, and odds.  Test your skills at “Ready To Ride!” a racehorse simulator that will give you the experience of riding a Thoroughbred race horse.  Then, wind down at Saratoga Winery, with an informal, relaxed wine pairing with handmade chocolate Truffles and a tasting of 5-wines that they pair well with.  Everyone will take home a souvenir wine glass to remember our trip.  Enjoy a welcome reception at the Queensbury Hotel in Glens Falls. L

DAY 2 – After a full breakfast buffet, we’ll depart for Saratoga Race Track to take the Backstretch Tram Tour.  We’ll get a look at the race horses as they workout in preparation for the day’s race and see how they teach the horses to enter the starting gate at our Starting Gate Demonstration.  Then, meet our local guide for a two-hour bus tour of Saratoga Springs, which will highlight Historic Congress Park, the mineral springs, stopping at a few to sample some of the restorative spring water from their “fountains of youth,” see historic Victorian architecture, take a leisurely drive down Millionaires Row, and hear about the many characters and personalities that have called Saratoga Springs home.  Then, it’s off to the races!  You’ll have time for lunch at the track before the racing begins, and we have Grandstand Admission & reserved Seating for the races.  Dinner at the hotel is included. DAY 3 –Watch the thoroughbreds work out on our tour of the Oklahoma Training Track and learn why this beautiful and historic site is a favorite base for leading trainers (approximate 1-mile walking tour of paddocks on uneven ground).  Enjoy time for lunch and shopping in downtown Saratoga Springs, which is lined with unique boutiques and quaint shops tucked among wonderful restaurants and cafes. Before leaving New York, we’ll stop at the Argyle Cheese Farmer to learn how they make their cheeses, sample both their cheese and yogurt & shop. (B)
