Philadelphia Flower Show

Travel to Philadelphia for a getaway that is sure to warm your winter-weary bones!

Philadelphia Flower Show & Longwood Gardens

Thursday, March 7—Saturday, March 9

Travel to Philadelphia for a getaway that is sure to warm your winter-weary bones!  The Philadelphia Flower Show is an annual event at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. It is the world’s oldest and largest indoor flower show, attracting more than 260,000 people annually. You’ll be treated to fabulous floral and landscape design, live entertainment, culinary demonstrations, gardening how-to workshops, and lectures by experts.

DAY 1- We will take a guided tour of Philadelphia to see the most historic square mile in the United States, home to the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, Congress Hall, Christ Church and Elfreths Alley. Then, enjoy a delicious 18th-century-inspired dinner at City Tavern before checking into our hotel, the Hampton Inn City Center Convention Center. Within easy walking distance from our hotel are many nearby attractions that include the Flower Show, Reading Terminal Market, the Philadelphia Mint, the National Constitution Center, the Liberty Bell and more. (B,D).

DAY 2 - You’ll have the entire day at leisure to explore the Philadelphia Flower Show.  This year’s theme is “Flower Power!,” a tie-in to the 50th anniversary of Woodstock. This year, the Flower Show will be hosting the Florists Transworld Delivery World Cup, a floral design competition. Each competitor represents a different country, and will make four different floral designs. Each of these designs will be on display at the Flower Show itself. At the Designer’s Studio, you’ll see the nation's best design professionals and amateur contestants show their stuff live on-stage in head-to-head competitions.  Located at the center of the Show floor, The Gardener's Studio is the perfect place to relax your legs while learning something new, as gardening and greening experts share their passion with the public.  At the Fine Wine & Good Spirits store, you can sample complimentary wines and liquors from the world’s finest makers and partake in free, expert-led tastings---the perfect way to begin or end a Flower Show evening. DAY 3 – We’ll vsit Longwood Gardens where show-stopping color, breathtaking displays, and inspiring artistry await during Orchid Extravaganza. Come in from the cold and delight in the sights and scents inside their 4-acre Conservatory. See a beautiful towering 12-foot-tall archway made of Phalaenopsis orchids, an iconic orchid curtain, and more than 200 Vanda  hanging in the Silver Garden. Longwoods gardeners, designers, carpenters, and metal workers craft original displays each year to present orchids in unique ways. This year they introduce a new form: orchid-wrapped columns rising in stately elegance in Exhibition Hall.   The blues take center stage in the Orangery and Exhibition Hall during Longwoods Winter Blues Festival - from blue-poppies to hydrangeas, it's a sight to behold.
