Head down the country back-roads to enjoy some old-time fall festivals, fairs & fun!

DAY 1 - We’ll travel through the heart of the White Mountains on the beautiful Kancamagus Byway, making photo stops at the some of the scenic overlooks and at the covered bridge. Then, enjoy free time for lunch & shopping at quaint North Conway Village’s many unique restaurants and shops, like Zeb’s General Store, where you’ll find everything from cheese to New Hampshire-made gifts and gourmet foods. We’ll travel to Jackson, NH, to witness the Return  of  the  Pumpkin  People,  where  local  people and businesses create pumpkin characters and scenes to compete for the best display. We’ll stop at the Jackson Covered Bridge and the cascading Jackson Falls as we travel through the quaint village in search of Pumpkin People. We’ll overnight at the Fox Ridge Resort in North Conway, the laid-back ambience of the Fox Ridge Resort is as relaxing as the scenery.

DAY 2 - We’ll travel to Sunday River’s Grand Summit Resort Hotel, located minutes from picturesque Bethel Village in western Maine’s Mahoosuc Mountains, where we will stay for two nights. Our Resort is the host for the annual Sunday River Fall Festival, and you’ll have the day to enjoy all the activities at the property. There will be live entertainment featuring local bluegrass bands; the Annual Blue Mountain Arts & Crafts Festival, with over 45 regional artists and artisans; “Taste of Maine” food vendors offering Maine foods – from lobster rolls to blueberry cobblers; horse-drawn wagon rides; chainsaw & woodcarving demonstrations; and the Annual North American Wife Carrying Championships, in which competitors carry their wives over a 280-yard obstacle course with two log obstacles and a water hole. Teams from across the US and Canada compete for the wife’s weight in beer, five times her weight in cash, and a chance to compete at the World Championships in Finland. We’ll enjoy a Chondola ride (an enclosed 8-person gondola) to the top of the mountain for some spectacular views of the Mahoosuc Mountains and the Sunday River Valley. (B)

DAY 3 - We’ll spend the day at the famous Fryeburg Fair that has been held on the same grounds since 1885.  It is considered to be one of the best agricultural fairs in the U.S., and offers non-stop livestock, agriculture and farming exhibitions with over 3,000 head of large animals - cattle, horses, oxen, steers, ponies and hundreds of smaller animals - sheep, goats, hogs, poultry, rabbits, and more.  At dusk, join our local guide on our bus for a “moose safari” through some of the most picturesque areas in Grafton Notch State Park and along the banks of the Androscoggin River, watching for moose as we learn about moose and their habits.  (B,D)

DAY 4 – We’ll stop at Rickers Hard Cider Mill for tour of the apple packing facility, the cider press, the fermentation tanks, the canning line and enjoy a Maniac Hard Cider tasting (regular cider is also available). At Ricker Hill Orchard, we’ll shop for apples and browse the bake shop. Enjoy some free time in Freeport for lunch & shopping the many outlets and L.L.Beans Factory Store before returning to the Cape. (B)
