Alaska Cruisetour with Princess Cruises – 14-Day Denali Explorer

Tuesday, May 19 – Tuesday, June 2, 2020

Join us for a 7-day cruise on Princess Cruise’s Coral Princess, then disembark in Anchorage for a five-day land tour to Denali Park.

MAY 19 - Fly to Vancouver and overnight at centrally located Fairmont Waterfront Hotel, which is adjacent to the Cruise Terminal. Funtastic Getaways will provide round-trip transfers to Logan Airport and transfers to the hotel in Vancouver.  We will arrive in Vancouver mid-day, and you’ll have the rest of the day to explore – historic Gastown is just a 5-minute walk from the hotel, and there are lots of shops and restaurants within walking distance.  Airfare will be arranged by Funtastic Getaways, please call or check the website for pricing after early September.

MAY 20 – Enjoy breakfast at the hotel and the morning at leisure to explore downtown Vancouver before our Alaska Cruise on the Coral Princess (check in begins at noon).

MAY 21 Day at Sea – Enjoy a day at sea to explore the ship’s amenities.  Relax by the pool, book a spa treatment, try your luck at the casino, take a Discovery at Sea program – there are many options on our beautiful ship!

MAY 22 – Icy Strait Point 12 PM – 10 PM - Nearby Alaska's largest Tlingit village exists a uniquely Alaskan place - lcy Strait Point.  The Huna Tlingit have occupied this area for thousands of years, and you will be intrigued by its rich Native heritage, opportunities to see wildlife and the vast wilderness that surrounds this unique village. Icy Strait's waters have yielded record-breaking halibut and salmon catches and provide summer-long access to all five species of salmon. Chichagof Island, on which Icy Strait Point is located, supports one of the largest concentrations of brown bears in the world and sightings are common.

MAY 23 - Juneau 8 AM – 9 PM - In 1880, it was slow going for Joe Juneau and Richard Harris as they searched for gold with the help of Native guides. After climbing mountains, forging streams and facing countless difficulties, they found nuggets "as large as beans." From their discovery came three of the largest gold mines in the world. Juneau is famous for its breathtakingly beautiful glaciers and stunning views of both water and mountains.

MAY 24 – Skagway 7 AM – 8:30 PM - Skagway was the gateway to the gold fields for the thousands who flocked to Alaska and the Yukon with the hope of striking it rich. Skagway may have boasted the shortest route to the Klondike, but it wasn't the easiest.  The White Pass route through the Coast Mountains and the shorter but steeper Chilkoot Trail were used by countless stampeders. Many a would-be miner perished on the treacherous Chilkoot Trail.  The gold rush was a boon and by 1898, Skagway was Alaska's largest town. Hotels, saloons, dance halls and gambling houses prospered.

MAY 25 – Scenic Cruising Glacier Bay National Park 6 AM – 3 PM - Princess is one of a select few cruise lines permitted to cruise the pristine waters of Glacier Bay, the highlight of our 7-day Voyage of the Glaciers cruise. Just west of Juneau, this breathtaking national park and preserve boasts some of the world's most spectacular tidewater glaciers, such as Margerie Glacier, which often drops colossal chunks of ice into the sea. Not surprisingly, Glacier Bay National Park and its epic ice giants are part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site comprising Alaska's magnificent park system.  During your scenic cruise, friendly Park Rangers will join the ship to share their knowledge of this amazing place and the abundant wildlife, including humpback whales, sea otters, porpoises, harbor seals, black bears, mountain goats, bald eagles and large colonies of seabirds.

MAY 26 – Scenic Cruising College Fjord 6 PM – 8:30 PM - Stretching for miles, these massive rivers of ice tumble down from mountains and through valleys, dipping into the pristine waters of the fjord. There you'll have a chance to watch the awe-inspiring process of glaciers calving, or dropping enormous pillars of ice into the sea, as they crack and land with a thunderous splash – a once-in-a-lifetime experience not to be missed! College Fjord not only boasts the world's largest collection of tidewater glaciers, but it features magnificent snowcapped mountains as far as the eyes can see. Plus, during the summer, it's not unheard of to catch a glimpse of one of the area's humpback whales feeding in the waters of the fjord.

MAY 27 – Anchorage (Whittier) 12:30 AM.  Transfer to Denali Princess Wilderness Lodge.  Exclusive Direct-to-the-Wilderness rail service provides a fabulous beginning to an incredible journey, with magnificent scenery and friendly Princess service all along the way. Take in breathtaking sights from glass-domed rail cars and our outdoor viewing platforms. In addition to the wildlife you’re bound to see, you won’t want to miss views of Denali, Hurricane Gulch, Turnagain Arm and dozens of picturesque rivers and meadows. Enjoy commentary from our onboard rail guides and arrive refreshed for your first night on land in Alaska at the Denali Princess Wilderness Lodge. Easy trails link the various places to shop and dine in this campus setting. No matter where you are, the natural splendor of the park is never far away.

MAY 28 - Denali Princess Wilderness Lodge.  You have a full day to get out into one of America's best national parks. This morning, a Natural History Tour serves as a wonderful introduction to the animals, plants and geological features found there. You may want to stop by the tour desk to plan an activity such as rafting or hiking.

MAY 29 - Mt. Mckinley Princess Wilderness Lodge – Talkeetna. A scenic drive between our two lodges culminates in incredible views of Denali, and with your arrival at the Mt. McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge, a relaxing haven in one of the most dazzling settings imaginable.

MAY 30 - Mt. Mckinley Princess Wilderness Lodge – Talkeetna.  A full day at the Mt. McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge means you'll have ample time to both relax and explore. The nature trails around the grounds is a pleasant way to get a sense of the place. The Princess staff can help you choose from a generous offering of outdoor activities & excursions, or sit and gaze at the majesty of "The Great One" from the lodge's treehouse designed and built by Pete Nelson of Animal Planet's Treehouse Masters.

MAY 31 – Anchorage.  Take in final views of the mountain, perhaps over a leisurely cup of coffee, before you transfer via motorcoach to Anchorage. This is Alaska's most cosmopolitan city, so get out and explore the shops, restaurants and cultural attractions. Overnight at Hotel Captain Cook in Anchorage.
